Youth Art Month at Waterville Creates
This year's celebration at the Waterville Creates new Arts Center is open during the month on March - Youth Art Month! - 11am to 7pm every day except Tuesdays. Click here for more information.

Kindergarten Trees
Mrs. Reed's students observed nature and existing artwork and photographs of trees in winter. They drew these trees using black and white crayons on large 24x36 manila paper.
Kindergarten Snowmen
Mrs. Swain's class drew snowmen on a foam printing plate and printed them on three pieces of construction paper.
Kindergarten Lines
Mrs. Dugal's students explored different types of lines. They drew lines with white crayon, painted lines in black tempera, and added colorful lines using art tissue.
1st Grade ROYGBiV Self Portraits
First grade students learned about color order (the order of the colors of the rainbow - red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet), reviewed different types of lines, and drew a self portrait to bring these pieces together.
2nd Grade Number Paintings
Mrs. J's students made these number paintings after looking at the work of Jasper Johns, who wanted us to see numbers as art not just information.
2nd Grade Gesture Drawings
Mrs. Peter's students made quick - 1 minute! - drawings of their classmates in silly poses using ovals and circles.
3rd Grade Line Paintings
Mrs. Barnum's class reviewed different kinds of lines to create these watercolor paintings.
3rd Grade Hearts
Mrs. Ouellette's students painted these fluorescent hearts in the style of Pop Artist Peter Max.
3rd Grade Pinch Pot Creatures
Mrs. Paquette's students made these pinch pot creatures. We reviewed hand-modeling pinch pots from first grade and learned how to attach clay pieces by scoring and using a vinegar and water "clay glue."
4th Grade Kandinsky Color Review
Mrs. Allen's students reviewed color families - primary, secondary, warm, cool, neutral, and free choice - to create these artworks in the style of Wassily Kandinky's "Concentric Circles."
4th Grade Value Designs
Mrs. Dean's class learned to make values (tints and shades) using a single color of tempera paint and mixing in white and black paint. their value scales on the bottom of their work was used to paint the design on top.
4th Grade Northern Lights
Mr. Leimbach's class learned a chalk pastel process for creating the illusion of the northern lights. They finished these artworks with back tempera paint trees.
