Kindergarten Lines
Mrs. Dugal's students explored different types of lines. They drew lines with white crayon, painted lines in black tempera, and added colorful lines using art tissue.
Kindergarten Fossils
Mrs. Reed's class learned how to make impressions in clay and to use liquid gloss glazes safely while making these clay fossils.
Kindergarten Dinosaur Drawings
Mrs. Swain's class practiced drawing dinosaurs while waiting for their clay fossils to be bisque-fired for glazing.
1st Grade Planet Dots
Miss Barron's class read the book "The Dot" by Peter H. Reynolds to inspire these crayon resist planets. They placed their planets in a splatter-painted universe.
1st Grade Pattern Hearts
Mrs. Dickey's class practiced making patterns for these crayon/watercolor resist hearts.
1st Grade Pinch Pots
Mrs. Nichols students learned how to model clay into small pot or cup shapes using the technique of pinching them into shape. They used liquid gloss glazes to add color.
2nd Gyotaku Collages
Mrs. Hartwell's second graders learned about the Japanese art of fish printing (gyotaku) and made prints using tempera paint and fish replicas. Students added paint, construction paper, and art tissue to complete these collages.
2nd Grade Roll-A-Miro Paintings
Miss Hay's second graders played a dice-rolling art game and painted in the style of Joan Miro to make these other-worldly artworks.
2nd Grade Wire People
Mrs. Juskewitch's second grade class learned about American artist Alexander Calder and his wire circus and then used wire, cardboard and found materials to make these wire people.
3rd Grade Warm + Cool Color Paintings
Mrs. Barnum's third graders learned about color families, including warm (red, yellow, orange) and cool (blue, green, purple) colors. They explored how artists use warm colors to make objects pop out of paintings and cool colors to make them recede into the background.
3rd Grade Notan
Mrs. Ouellette's third graders learned how to create these Notan collages using paper and glue to make positive and negative shapes and spaces.
3rd Grade Complementary Color Mobiles
Miss Paquette's third graders made these mobiles using construction paper in complementary color pairs.
4th Grade Basquiat Crowns
Mrs. Dean's students learned about American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat and his use of the crown as a symbol in his artwork. Students used the primary colors plus white tempera to paint their crowns and added drawings to their work with oil pastels.
4th Grade Chihuly Sculptures
Mr. Leimbach's class learned about American glass sculptor Dale Chihuly. They made sculptures in his style using both shrink film, which were sent home in December, and coffee filters shown below.
Life Skills Apple Prints
Mrs. Sirois' students practiced printmaking with apples, and red, yellow, and green tempera paint on construction paper.
